The purpose of this research is to develop a teaching approach through the reading of literary texts of the Spanish epic poems, el Poema del Mio Cid and el Cantar del Cerco de Zamora. The objective is to show all the possibilities that these two poems offer at the time of teaching Spanish. The thesis is based on documents generated by educational organizations, specifically: the American Association of Teacher of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) and the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). These organizations are dedicated to research focused on the development of teaching methods that will increase the proficiency of the Spanish Language. Theories that reinforce meaningful learning were chosen, taking advantage of the cognitive characteristics of the brain and the natural learning processes of each individual. The focus is to introduce the student to the comprehension of epic poems and the development of linguistic structures that will partially escalate in a way that he-she will enjoy. The two Spanish epic poems that have been chosen have certain characteristics that open an opportunity to develop a teaching proposal that will then be divided into three chapters. With this, the goal is to provide a structured process to forge linguistic constructions that will allow the proficiency of reading, writing and speech; departing from the usage of the two literary pieces, and to include them into a strategy that will look into particular aspects of the process of learning Spanish. In general terms, the characteristics of both Spanish epic poems and their usage for the Spanish language teacher are presented. Also, a guide to both poems is included so the teacher can make use of it when planning the class. In this guide, the professor will find linguistic and interdisciplinary exercises and their application when working with these literary pieces. In conclusion, a Spanish epic poem has, within its lines, the possibility of involving the student in the study of language while enjoying the reading of these epic stories. This can be achieved, through the usage of a well-designed process to increase the academic success of the student.en_US
