dc.description.abstractThis essay was intended as part of the author's PhD dissertation, based on field research in Iran during 1973-74. Some of the information was published in the author's dissertation, "Developmental impact of technology transfer to Iran" (University of Oennsylvania, 1979). The study in its entirety is presented as here for the first time, for posterity. It can provide historical context for the path Iran took toward modernization and industrialization. It is notewothy that in 1973, the main local automotive manufacturer Iran National Industrial Manufacturing Company (subsequenty renamed Iran Khodrow) was host to a large number of South Korean engineers from Hyundai, in the Tehran plant to observe and apprentice automotive manufacturing skillsen_US
